Today we are going to make bulgur pilaf with green lentils. I don’t know about you but I eat bulgur pilaf every day for my healthy diet. I don’t like to eat bread with food. Bulgur pilaf is much healthier and more satisfying than bread. Not to mention the high fiber it contains. If you are interested in a healthy diet, you can consume three to five tablespoons of plain and low-fat bulgur pilaf instead of a slice of bread at your meals. BULGUR PILAF WITH GREEN LENTILS – MERCIMEKLI BULGUR PILAVI

Try this delicious bulgur pilaf with green lentils.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups bulgur
  • 1 cup of green lentils
  • 3 cups of water to boil the lentils
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 spoonful butter
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • Hot water just one finger over the bulgur

Instructions
 

  • Boil the green lentils with 3 glasses of water until it boils.
  • When it starts to boil, reduce the heat and boil the lentils for 5 more minutes. Turn off the heat and let the lentils stand for the next step without straining.
  • In a separate pan, mix the butter and vegetable oil, add the finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns a little pink.
  • Add the bulgur and salt and mix.
  • Add the boiled lentils with their water and mix.
  • Flatten your lentil bulgur mixture in the pan.
  • Add hot water (just one finger over the bulgur), turn the stove to the lowest heat, and cover the pot.
  • Cook your pilaf over low heat until the water is absorbed. (about 15-20 minutes)
  • Turn off the heat after your meal is cooked, stir the pilaf only once, close the lid of the pan and let the rice rest for half an hour.

What Are Lentil Bulgur Pilaf Tips?

  • For the lentils to cook easily, you should boil them beforehand. However, since the lentils will cook again later, you should not allow them to soften completely. Otherwise, your lentils may be scattered.
  • If you don’t have much time, you can also boil your lentils in the pressure cooker.
  • Your rice will be much more delicious when made with butter. However, if you don’t want to use butter, you can also use margarine.
  • You can also prepare your bulgur pilaf with tomato paste. To make it with tomato paste, while cooking your onions, add a tablespoon of tomato paste and saute it together.
