The best hummus recipe isn’t really difficult to achieve. Let’s discuss exactly what hummus actually is. If you aren’t familiar, hummus is either a delicious dip or spread you can make of chickpeas or chickpea flour, tahini, lemon, and various spices. It’s commonly found in the Middle East and in the Mediterranean.

I decided to create homemade hummus for my family’s New Year party because we enjoy the taste of it, plus I’ve been eating healthier since then. The best hummus recipe is with fresh chickpeas. To enhance the flavor of the hummus, I used fresh garlic and fresh lemon juice. Not only do I add garlic and lemon juice, but I also blend them together. When blending the ingredients, you want to take your time and get it right. Some people like to chop up the ingredients and get the mixture just right, but I prefer to mince the garlic and let the juice simmer for a few minutes. This brings out the nuttiness of the garlic and makes it an even deeper taste in the hummus.

For a sweet and sour variation of hummus, I served roasted garlic hummus with toasted sesame seeds. Spread a thin layer of bread with the toasted sesame seeds and place a small slice of garlic on top. To make the roasted garlic hummus extra sweet, drizzle a little bit of honey over the garlic when preparing the sandwich.

You can dress up your hummus easily by adding some light and tasty ingredients. If you’re not a huge fan of garlic, then use a mild Cayenne pepper.
